Analyzing The Processes Of Decolonization And Early Post...

Analyzing the processes of decolonization and early post-colony in Africa is a complex task. Especially when looking through the perspective of different nations that each followed their own path. Chinua Achebe’s There was a Country and Ngugi Wa Thiong’o’s Dreams in a Time of War, are both exceptional novels that grapple with the social and political struggles going on in their respective countries. They also help explore the complexities of nation building as well as political conflicts expression in communal form. On one hand, Thiong’o’s piece is a child’s recollection of his childhood with the lead up to the Mau Mau Emergency and colonialism in the backdrop. Achebe’s on the other hand takes place later in history and focuses on the political and social struggles that ultimately led to the Biafran war. Dreams in a Time of War takes a more abstract attempt at telling the story of colonialism and the conflicts of Kenya. One of the main comparisons the book makes is that of Thiong’o as a person to Africa itself. It looks at how his thirst and perseverance towards learning and self-reliance reflects Kenya s, and Africa’s as a whole, eagerness to rid themselves from colonial rule. This idea comes from an important scene in the book where at the age of nine Thiong’o’s mother asked him if he wanted to go to school; he was so overwhelmed because he didn’t even think to hope of something like that. Despite his initial response, he also realized the hardship and sacrifice thatShow MoreRelatedOne Significant Change That Has Occurred in the World Between 1900 and 2005. Introduction to International Business for Political Factors

Question: Discuss about theIntroduction to International Business for Political Factors. Answer: Market Analysis There are mainly six components that can create an impact on the Cendol iced sweet dessert. These components include the Geographic factors, demographic factors, socio-cultural factors, legal factors, economic factors, and political factors (Gustafsson, Herrmann, and Huber, 2013). These factors create an opportunity and challenge for the new product of the company which is discussed below:- Geographic factors Climate- One of the factors that can affect the expansion and the opportunity for the company is climate; the climate can bring the challenges for the company. Talking about the climate of UK, there are warm summers and the cool winters, in summers the temperature rises more than 320C and in winters it not much lower than the 0o There is the opportunity of the iced sweet dessert in the summers and the company can make the revenue easily but at the time of winters, the company faces the downfall in the sales (Clifford, Cope, Gillespie, and French, 2016). In winters the demand for the iced sweet dessert will reduce and then the company might face the challenge. Location- Location is another geographic factor that can lead to the challenges or the opportunity for the company. The company needs to select the best and the popular market for the product so that they can attract more and more customers towards the product. It also helps to make the product accessible to the customers. The popular market of the UK consists of Norwich Market, Oxford Covered market, Beverley Saturday market in the East Yorkshire Riding, and many other markets (Lee, Zhang, Brecke, Pei, 2015). Each and every company search for the prime markets for their product because this generates the awareness about the product among the customers. The prime location helps the company in enhancing the sales of the product. Demographic factors Age Structure- Desert is available for all the people, the expansion of the Cendol iced sweet dessert product doesn't need any particular age structure. Population Size- The current population of the UK consists of 66,323,974 on 11th November 2017. The population of the UK is equal to the 0.88% of world's total population. The Rank of the UK population is in 21st The population of the country indicated that there are other countries that rank good and have more population as compared to UK (Lanfear, Kokko, and Eyre-Walker, 2014). The expansion of the product can lead to the challenges for the future expansion of the outlet in the UK at that time the company needs to think of the other countries where they can expand the business. Legal factors Product safety inspection- The product that is introduced by the company in the market should have fulfilled the entire requirement related to the product safety. The product should be passed from the Food Standards Agency; this agency is responsible for the food hygiene and safety across the UK. The company needs to make sure that they are fulfilling the legal factors because non-fulfillment of these factors leads to the challenges for the company (Casey, 2015). The product offered by the company to its customer needs to be hygiene and safety, quality assurance to the customers leads to the opportunity to create the brand value and customer satisfaction. If the company is able to achieve the customer satisfaction through product then they can think for the expansion of the outlets in the UK. Enforcement of contracts- The Company needs to fulfill the contract for the expansion of the product in the UK. It is must to maintain the contract to prevent the restrictions on future opportunities and the challenges. The breach of the contract leads to the problem for the company. It is must check all the necessary legal formalities which are required to be fulfilled from the company side before the introduction of the product into a new market (McKendrick, 2014). Use of Foreshadowing in Of Mice and Men Steinbeck Essay Example For Students

Use of Foreshadowing in Of Mice and Men Steinbeck Essay Of Mice and Men EssaysUse of Foreshadowing in Of Mice and Men In the novel, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, foreshadowing is used a great deal throughout the whole story. From the beginning to the end, it appears everywhere hinting on what will happen in order to make the book more enjoyable. It was used to show that Lennie will be getting into trouble with Curleys wife, the death of Lennie, and exactly how he dies. The moment that Curleys wife was introduced, an ill feeling overcomes the atmosphere indicating that Lennie will be getting into a mess with her. George states in the very beginning that he is always getting into mishaps, You do bad things and I got to get you out, (p.11). The situation in Weed involved a girl and Curleys wife just happened to be the only girl on the ranch. We will write a custom essay on Use of Foreshadowing in Of Mice and Men Steinbeck specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Connecting ends with ends, there is a sense of insecurity between these two people. Later on, there was an intimation that she was going to be killed by Lennie because he killed the mouse and the puppy, leading to bigger deaths such as Curleys wife. Foreshadowing plays a large role in indicating that Lennie isnt going to last long in this harsh world. The beginning introduces this world in such a great way, raising your emotions with a happy tone in a wonderful peaceful scene and then sends that scene plummeting over a cliff into a dark unhappy environment. The strong characters in this environment attack the weak and the weak attack the weaker. An example of the strong against the weak is when Carlson compels Candy, Ill put the old devil out of his misery right now, (p.47) to let him shoot his dog. An example of the weak attacking the weaker is when Crooks teases Lennie, jus spose he dont come back, (p. 72) Lennie is the weakest because of his mental disability and his lack of thinking for himself. He would either run away or be eliminated through death. Candy and his dog mirror the image of George and Lennie. Candy being George and his dog being Lennie. When the dog dies, it foreshadows his death because the dog represented him. The contrast between the first chapter and the last also shows his death because the same scene goes from the peaceful field to the violent death of the water snake. This deep change hints on the upcoming tragedy, Lennies demise. The fact that the death of Candys dog and the death of Lennie are identical reflects on the way his murder was carried out. He was shot by in the back of the head the same way the dog was. Candy told George, I ought to of shot that dog myself(p.61) making him chose to kill Lennie himself to save him from dying by the hands of a stranger. Doing it the way that Carlson did it was for the best because, He wont even feel it. (p.48) Steinbeck used the technique of foreshadowing to make the book Of Mice and Men more than just merely a book. He made it a book where the reader can predict what will happen before it happens through hints in the surrounding events. Curleys Wifes death was foreshadowed by Lennies reputation as a troublemaker, his own death was foreshadowed through relationships between characters and the use of contrast, and the way he was killed was shown through Candys dogs death. Although Steinbeck cannot recreate a Shakespeare, he has created his own Steinbeck style which no one else can recreate.

How far does Coriolanus succeed in and surpass his Destiny shaped by his mother Essay Example

How far does Coriolanus succeed in and surpass his Destiny shaped by his mother Essay Example How far does Coriolanus succeed in and surpass his Destiny shaped by his mother Essay How far does Coriolanus succeed in and surpass his Destiny shaped by his mother Essay Essay Topic: Mother To Mother Coriolanus is a Roman soldier fighting a war against the Volsces, a barbarian tribe in the North. His mother, Volumnia, has been his main influence during his life. Volumnia brought him up in a tough way To a cruel war I sent him, from whence he returned his brows bound with oak. I tell thee, daughter I sprang not more in joy at first hearing he was a man-child than now in first seeing he had proved himself a man. Therefore her expectations are for him to be a tough man. Expectations which we see fulfilled when Coriolanus is out in battle. Where his wife Virginias reaction is one of worry, as one could expect O Jupiter, no blood. Volumnias is one very different I had rather had eleven died nobly for their country than one voluptuously surfeit out of action. She promotes Coriolanus mad courage, by which I mean risking anything to fulfil his plan.An example is him pursuing the Volsces into their own walls when the Romans were too cowardly to follow him. They only looted from the enemy rather than defeating them. For this victory he is honoured by Rome as a great hero and soldier. O noble fellow! If there is to be a blot on Coriolanus reputation it is his contempt of the Plebeians. Who deserves greatness deserves your hate. This is what gives Brutus and Sicinius, two tribunes of the people, their opportunity to manipulate the sheepishness of the Plebeians and to remove Coriolanus from power as consul. Let them not lick the sweet that is their poison. The question we must ask ourselves is if Coriolanus really was their poison and ultimately if Coriolanus banishment necessary or just an act of jealousy by Brutus and Sicinius because they feel threatened by him?We already know that the plebeians like complaining. We seldom see them doing anything else. Let us fight with our pikes ere we become rakes, this hinting at a rebellion because theyre hungry. And again well have corn at our own prices. After Coriolanus has explained to them how he has fought far more bravely and at greater cost than anyone else. Look, sir, my wounds! I got them in my countrys service // When some certain of your brethren roared and ran from thnoise of our own drums, they are soon back on his side. It is this volatile temperament of the plebeians that Coriolanus despises. This is fair enough because this crowds favour alternates side as the wind changes direction. It is very easy to manipulate this kind of fickle crowd into thinking Coriolanus is a bad ruler again. This is exactly what Brutus and Sicinius plot to do by manipulating them into thinking that the power will taken from the people if they vote of Coriolanus. Here is he that would take you all from power. The truth is that they are only jealous of Coriolanus and feel threatened by him. Then our office may // During his power go sleep. In order too see if Coriolanus actions are to fulfil his maternal destiny we must look at Coriolanus motives for his gallant deeds. We must look at whether they are virtus, deeds do ne solely for his own self pride and personal gain or pietas, deeds done for his family. We know from what is said about Coriolanus that there is a definite split opinion as to whether his pride is driving his deeds or maternal influence or indeed if he fights so bravely in pure selfless love for his country. He did it to please his mother and to be partly proud this quote suggests that Coriolanus motives are to please his Mother, a testimony to his loyalty to his mother. At the same time, the second half of this quote suggests a certain element of pride which is why he isnt appealing to the plebeians. But the difference between Coriolanus and main characters in other Shakespeare plays such as Macbeth and King Lear is that in those plays the main character is capable of reflecting on his actions and understanding where hes gone wrong. Macbeth realises the pointlessness of his murders, King Lear sees how wrong he was to care only for his own riches and not for the poorest in the kingd om. Coriolanus, however, is faced with a situation, in which he can follow virtus and seek to revenge Rome by burning it down for his personal satisfaction or pietas and by doing so, save his family and discard his lust for revenge. The main difficulty with this decision for Coriolanus is that it means change. This is a daunting prospect for Coriolanus, The rock, the oak not to be wind-shaken. His mothers influence which appears to have made him the rock he is is so strong that he cannot tell when the time is right to let go of virtus. This is where Coriolanus surpasses his destiny, even his mother couldnt have prepared for such a proud, stubborn son. Where Macbeth and King Lear realised they were wrong, Coriolanus stands firm, only deciding not to burn Rome because his mother begs him and shames him with [her] knees. This proves his undying love and loyalty to his mother he did it for his mother. The fact that his mother had to be on her knees, however suggests that he didnt get his stubborn attitude solely from his mother. If he did then she would have come to expect this attitude from him but I believe that it is his desire and conditioning partly by the Roman aristocracy who look down on the Plebeians as a lower social group, that caused his immense pride. In conclusion I believe that Coriolanus becomes the proud, brave, tough fighter that we see in his mother. However Coriolanus becomes so set in his ways that he can almost not change them, even though it meant putting his familys life at stake. His own personal pride playing a part in that. But the fact that he doesnt go ahead in burning Rome is a testimony to his loyalty to his mother even if he cannot reason what he has done wrong for himself.

Informational Interview - Article Example He told me that perseverance and relentless struggle are two most important skills which I need to work on if I wanted to become a professor in biomedical engineering in the future. This is because this is a highly competitive field and great focus on emerging technologies and research work is required to gain a competitive edge over other players in the field. I discovered that to become a fellow of AIMBE which is a US association reserved only for the top 2% of the best biomedical engineers, one should get fiercely engaged in research activities involving areas of biological and pharmaceutical systems. The top three qualities of a professional in the field with which Dr. Putnam is associated refer to a deep understanding of engineering design principles, production of functional biomaterials, and design of those biomaterials. When I asked Dr. Putnam about how I can make myself a more competitive or desirable applicant in any job area related to biomedical engineering, he wisely tol d me that I should develop keen interest in research work and remain prepared to conduct a series of experiments to fulfil that purpose which demands a lot of
